FACTS ABOUT APPETITE

It is considered that our appetite is “triggered” after intense physical tensions and walks in fresh air. Many experiments prove that things are not exactly like that. When you have spent half a day in the office or even at home, your chances of overeating increase several fold.
These are the certain conclusions of dietologists from the University Of Massachusetts. Several weeks they conducted a research with volunteers, who on a special plan changed the intensity of their physical exercises, checked their appetite and wrote their observations down. The intensity of the exercises varied from very strong to minimal but the doctors and the dietologists did not demand something extreme to be done – the participants just did actions typical of the everyday life.
In the intense (active) days people spent 12 hours on foot: they went shopping, cleaned their homes and had walks with their family and children. They were allowed to sit for 10 minutes every 1 hour. During the “inactive” days people participating in the experiment watched TV, stayed in front of the PC and if they had nothing to do, just lay in their beds.
Throughout the experiment participants could eat whatever and as much as they wished. Everybody could choose how many active and how many inactive days s/he would have.
At the end it was clear that the “idlers” had an incessant desire for food and ate 17% more food. They shared that they just didn’t feel satiated. Scholars suppose that the results are due to psychological reasons: when a person is busy he has something to do and looks upon food as a means of getting energy for work. Laziness causes him to do something and he feels that eating is a “job”. After all, this is an activity that requires time and engages your attention. Furthermore, people who shared that they didn’t like cooking used to prepare food for 30-40 minutes and ate it all in their inactive days.
Researchers believe that there could also be physiological reasons for the results: the lack of actions slows down the production of the hormone taking care of the feeling of sate.
The results of the experiment at this stage surprise scholars because it is more logical that the increased physical activity increases appetite, but … If you think it is necessary you can check the sincerity of the conclusions yourself.
